Prague Castle

Prague Castle is the largest castle complex in the world and one of the most important places in the Czech Republic. Its origins reach back to the 9th century, when the first princely stronghold was built on the Hradčany hill.

For centuries the castle was the seat of the kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman emperors and the state authorities. Today it serves as the official residence of the Czech president. The complex includes, among others, St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica and Golden Lane.

Prague Castle is not a single building but a sprawling ensemble of courtyards, palaces and gardens that reflects the development of architecture from the Middle Ages to modern times. It is one of Prague's foremost sights and a must for anyone wishing to understand the history of the city and of Bohemia.

Satori Cities

On a Satori Cities walk, Prague Castle is not treated as a box to tick. It is a place to notice power seen from a slower pace, to slow the body down, and to receive the historical context only after perception has done its work.
