Hradčany
Hradčany is one of the oldest and most important districts of Prague, set on a hill above the Vltava. It is the historic centre of power in Bohemia.
The district's most important element is Prague Castle — the seat of the Bohemian kings and today of the president of the Czech Republic. Within it stand, among others, St. Vitus Cathedral and numerous palaces and courtyards.
Hradčany stands out for its grand architecture, wide squares and views over Prague. The district's focal point is Hradčany Square, the main entrance to the castle grounds.
For centuries the district has served as the political and symbolic heart of the state, as reflected in its urban layout and buildings.
