Charles Bridge
Charles Bridge is the most important bridge in Prague. It links the Old Town with Malá Strana and leads towards Prague Castle. Built in the 14th century on the initiative of King Charles IV, for centuries it was part of the Royal Route that rulers walked during their coronation.
The bridge is adorned with 30 Baroque statues of saints, added in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is one of the most distinctive places in Prague, known for its views of the Vltava, Hradčany and the city panorama. A walk across the bridge helps you understand the layout of the historic centre and its significance in Czech history.
Today Charles Bridge is one of Prague's foremost tourist attractions and an essential stop for anyone visiting the city for the first time.
Satori Cities
On a Satori Cities walk, Charles Bridge is not treated as a box to tick. It is a place to notice river stone before the crowds, to slow the body down, and to receive the historical context only after perception has done its work.
