Vyšehrad
Vyšehrad is a historic fortress on a hill above the Vltava, regarded as one of the oldest places connected with the beginnings of Prague and the Czech state.
According to legend, it was here that Princess Libuše resided, who is said to have foretold the founding of Prague. Vyšehrad served as an important centre of power in the early Middle Ages.
Today the complex includes, among others, the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul, the Rotunda of St. Martin and the cemetery of eminent Czechs. The surrounding fortifications and extensive green areas make Vyšehrad a calmer alternative to Prague Castle.
From the fortress walls there are views of the Vltava and the southern part of the city, which makes it a popular place for walks and sightseeing.
