Municipal House
Obecní dům, the Municipal House, is one of the most important examples of Art Nouveau architecture in Prague. It stands on Náměstí Republiky, right next to the Powder Tower.
The building was constructed in the early 20th century as a grand space for the city's cultural and social life. Its interiors are decorated with works by leading Czech artists, including Alphonse Mucha.
The best-known part of the Municipal House is the Smetana Hall — a prestigious concert hall that hosts concerts and musical events. It was here, in 1918, that the independent Czechoslovakia was proclaimed.
