# New Town in Prague – the most interesting places worth discovering

New Town (Nové Město) is where modernity meets history. Here you will find not only the famous Wenceslas Square but also arcades, avant garde architecture, hidden gardens, and spots where history has written its most dramatic chapters. Here is a selection of attractions worth visiting during a stroll through this part of the city. National Museum Dominating the upper part of Wenceslas Square, the National Museum captivates not only with its monumental facade but also with its modern exhibitions inside. Be sure to see the mineral collection, historical and artistic displays, and climb the dome for panoramic views of New Town. 📍 Google Maps Lucerna Passage One of the most atmospheric spots in New Town. The passage is home to a famous work by David Černý – an upside down horse – as well as a cinema, cafes, and a historic concert hall. It is the perfect place to soak in the atmosphere of Prague modernism. 📍 Google Maps Franz Kafka's Head Another installation by David Černý and one of Prague's most photographed spots. This kinetic sculpture consists of rotating layers of steel that, every few minutes, align to form the writer's face. 📍 Google Maps Franciscan Garden A hidden green oasis located between Wenceslas Square and Jungmannovo náměstí. It is an ideal spot for a break among flowers and fruit trees. Be sure to also visit the nearby Church of Our Lady of the Snows , which houses the highest altar in Prague. 📍 Google Maps Jindřišská Tower (Henrykowska) A Gothic bell tower offering one of the best views over New Town. On site, you will also find a restaurant and a small historical exhibition. 📍 Google Maps New Town Hall The place where the Hussite uprising began in 1419. It is worth climbing the tower, from which you can enjoy a panorama of Charles Square . This is a lesser known attraction, often overlooked by tourists. 📍 Google Maps Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius This site commemorates the dramatic events of Operation Anthropoid – the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in 1942. In the crypts, you will find a museum dedicated to the Czech paratroopers who hid there. 📍 Google Maps Dancing House One of the icons of modern Prague architecture, designed by Frank Gehry. The building resembles a dancing couple, and the roof features a viewing terrace with beautiful views of the Vltava and the surrounding area. 📍 Google Maps National Theatre A symbol of Czech culture and national identity. Be sure to see the building's golden dome from the banks of the Vltava, and if time permits, take a tour of the interiors or attend a performance. 📍 Google Maps New Town is more than just Wenceslas Square – it is a network of streets, passages, and hidden corners that blend history with modernity.
